BBilly Caldwell is a singer/songwriter living in Charlottesville, VA. A recent transplant from the Green Mountains of Vermont, Billy is winning over audiences all over Virginia with a soulful blend of Americana, classic rock and R&B that he calls “Roots & Roll.”

Billy's songs are well written and observant. Sometimes humorous, sometimes bittersweet, his music combines catchy melodies and thoughtful lyrics with his punchy Jack Johnson-esqe guitar and a blusey voice that has been often compared to Bruce Springsteen and Warren Haynes.

Onstage, Billy is constantly in motion. His energy is contagious and he is obviously at ease on stage, whether telling jokes, taking requests, or relating a personal stories. Combine that with his sweat drenched, non-stop performances, and you have a show you can write home about.

Billy got a late start in the music business. Born and raised on the Jersey shore, he grew up singing in church and tried his hand at playing several instruments including trumpet, drums, and guitar, but nothing “really clicked.”

After graduating college, Billy was commissioned in the US Navy, got his “wings of gold,” and embarked on a career as a Navy pilot. While stationed in Corpus Christi, Texas, he began playing in a rock band called “El Kabong” with a couple of fellow pilots and was hooked. “We weren't very good but we had a lot of fun. Several of us were getting out of the Navy and decided to move move somewhere with a better music scene and try our luck.”

So at the ripe old age of 29, Billy moved to Austin, Texas to become a rockstar. “I don't know what I was thinking. I dabbled in guitar a bit as a teenager, but when I began playing with the band, I was basically starting from scratch.” Billy began writing songs, slowly got better on the guitar, and gigged semi-regularly with his bandmates in El Kabong until the band called it quits and Billy embarked on his “solo” career.

Since then, Billy has washed dishes and operated a backhoe in Colorado, solicited magazine subscriptions and delivered pizzas in New Jersey, banged nails and worked as a chef in Vermont and worked at a summer camp in Louisiana; all while honing his craft as a solo acoustic performer. “Its been a weird and winding road, but I finally feel like I kinda know what I'm doing up here.”

Recently, Billy moved to Charlottesville, VA to be closer to family and is quickly making a name for himself as a acoustic solo performer in and around Virginia.
